Battle of the Books: 4th – 6th Grade

Battle of the Books – Grades 4th – 6th

The library offers Battle of Books for grades 4th through 6th grade.

Students are invited to participate in Battle of the Books, a competition where teams collectively read 12 nominee books.  During the competition, the students answer questions about these books in a style similar to Jeopardy. This reading incentive program sponsored by Archdiocese of Seattle Elementary Librarians.

Our library has 4-5 copies of each title. Students are encouraged to reserve and check out these books starting in the fall. The Seattle Public Library and the King County library buy multiple copies of these titles, too,  and they also have audio books for some titles.  I am encouraging families and students to use the wonderful library app Libby. This can be accessed using your Seattle Public Library card.

In the fall, students will form their own grade-level teams consisting of four students from their homeroom class. Students will determine which books they need to read based on the input from their teammates, to ensure that their team has read all 12 books by the first round of competition in the spring. Teams will compete questions about the 12 award-nominated books. The winning teams from each grade level will then compete against the top teams from the other two grade levels which will determine the winning team for Holy Rosary School.

DATES:

October- introduce the books, students begin reading, form teams on their own

November- teams officially sign up to participate (Once teams have signed up, there is not an option to quit or back out)
